Happiness

P44

The idea I researched was happiness. I researched this because I feel if there is no happiness what's the point of life. The quote I chose is, "Happiness is a direction, not a place. ~Sydney J. Harris". This connects with my main idea because there is no single place for happiness, you will find happiness on the way. This quote is very powerful because it taught me that happiness is not only one step or one place. One must have a journey or take different steps to happiness. This quote is connected to the book because grandma finally learns how to be happy. She learned this from the whirligig. She thought if all the other people died they did not happiness. Why should she waste her own happiness. They want us to laugh all the times they did not get to laugh. In the end the this quote ties into my main topic.

Chinese Mother

(I once called my younger child garbage at a dinner party.) I feel this has different opinion on how every parent mentors there children. This article is important because I now realize how lucky we have to have the parents we have. To some westerners this could be considered illegal torture. For example, when she said 3 hours of practice on there instrument I thought she was crazy. This article has helped me realize the difference between western mothers and eastern mothers. This shows the teenagers in the world are either sports based or education based.

The East and the West are totally different continents beliefs and how they teach there children. First of all, from this article I can say that the east is more strict, For example, they are more focused on grades and you playing instruments. They are totally against drama and athletics. Second of all, the West seems to be more laid back and more understanding. For instance, they would probably be allowed to play sports or participate in any activity. In the end I feel this is a controversial subject that our class should talk more about.

Poem

The dim witted man Whose heart must pay By giving tribute With her spirit To all the people of the world I now just realize how Much of my life she took She used to be amused to whirligigs They brought happiness to everybody She had her own, stuffed under her bed So one day she could put them on the 4 Corners of the US You don’t know her favorite living thing It was a Butter fly With its beauty comes fragileness She once saw a commercial of abused children The next night she wept over them Why are they treated like that? You probably have never felt sorrow Or been sad When I got the call I was picking lentils for Her favorite soup What do I wish for? I wish for you to complete her dream Not restitution or money Or death 4 whirligigs on the corners of the US That is all I ask for It’s not too easy Yet not to hard Just a simple task To whom I am definitely attached to

P28

For this project we had to make a photoshopped silhouette of ourselves. My silhouette consisted of a smiley face, surfboards, water, band wagon, Curious George, Humpty Dumpty, and a pine tree. Each one of these items mean something to me or relate to me. First of all, a smiley face. I picked a smiley face it is always happy like me. Second of all, the surfboard. This was chosen for my love of surfing and the water. Third of all, was the band wagon in the abdomen section. Fourth of all, was Curious George. He was picked for being very curious like me. Fifth of all, is Humpty Dumpty. This character was chosen because he was unique in his own way like me. My final image was a pine tree. This was selected because, it is long and lanky like myself.
Something on my collage that might be susceptible to peer pressure is the part about being unique. This could hurt because it would be easier to make fun of me. A habit that I have is to jump on to the band wagon. For instance, sometimes when other people do stuff that may not be right I follow them. This could hurt me because sometimes I jump on the wrong band wagon. In the end I have two plans to better myself and my life. The first one is to try to be unique in a good way. The second is to not jump on the bandwagon that often.

Every 15 Minutes

When my dear son Gabe died it was one of the most sullen moments in me and my wife's life. When I first heard of the news I gave a long tirade to my cubemates. This calamity is like soccer you may of been scored on but it wasn't your fault. I feel that the inducer of these problems should pay. They caused three innocent teens to die and one to be paralyzed. Why did my son have to be part of the 70 percent of teens that drink and the 60 percent of teens killed in drunk driving accidents. This accident has caused me to gain weight and lose my job. Now I'm not a dad.

Do you understand that you tore a hole in my family that can never be sealed. You should be punished to the full extent of you actions. I personally feel you should go to jail for 10 years. This is unfortunate because those were your friends. I know it was a accident but you need to held for your actions. I just don't get it. Why did you think it was right to drink and drive.

Vocab Puppet Pals

Today is Friday, yesterday there was a great earthquake that caused a great Tsunami. This tsunami decimated the land on the Northern Coast of California. Many lives were lost. The tsunami was triggered by an earthquake off the coast of the Big Island.

Bob: Did you hear the sirens yesterday?

Rick: Yes I did, It gave me solace to hear the warnings and the sirens let everyone know to get to high ground.

Molly: I was glad that the sirens didn't malfunction.

Bob: Some people were deciding about whether to go to high ground or not, but after arbitrating the options everyone reached safety.

Molly: That should be a no brainer.

Rick: You got that right!

Molly: Many people were stifled by the mass amount of rubbishy and waste in the water. There was a lot of debris on the land. I saw many people culling through destruction.

Bob: So you're saying people were inundated by large amounts of water. Did anyone. drown?

Molly: Yes.

Rick: There are bodies all over. I think they will start to fester and decompose soon.

Molly:Yuck!

Bob: What happens to the houses that where flooded and water logged?

Rick: They become supple and deteriorated and will need to be cleared away.

Molly: That spiteful wave sure did some damage.

Bob: Sure did. It makes you pensive on how fragile life is.

Rick: Lets go surfing.

Jim: Who's in

Molly: Me First

Bob: Me second

Linda: After that day leaving the shore they were never seen again.

R and J medicinal plants

In this project I have been asked to research and report on two plants. They had to of been plants that have a medicinal use. For example guava and papaya. Well I picked Opium(Poppy's) and St. Johns wort. These plants are two of a vast number of medicinal plants that are on this world.

Opium is a substance that is harvested from poppies that can make medicine but it can also make narcotics(Drugs). My plant can be found in many places its most common Afghanistan and Mexico. The largest consumer is actually the United States. It is used for medicinal use as a pain killer. It has four main substances morphine, codeine, thebaine, and papavine. This drug is very potent and has the potential to kill. It started in China as a pain killer. It comes usually in white bitter powder that can be injected by needle, smoked, or orally swallowed.

St Johns Wort is a medicinal plant that elevates depression and pressure. It also can help smokers, cancer, HIV/AIDS, muscle pain, nerve pain and simple cuts and bruises. It started in Ancient Greece where it was used to help sleep. In the modern world their is really no cases of misuse of St. John's Wort. I guess you could get an overdose of antidepressant. It comes in 5 main forms, oil based lotions, pills, powdered, dried herbs and tea.

These two plants are not really a like. They both come in powdered forms. One is a pain killer trying to make you feel nothing while the antidepressant trying to make more happy. I believe Friar Lawrence was right in saying that each plant can be used for good and bad. For example, Opium Poppies can be used for someone that just lost there leg or for someone that is a druggie. In the end I feel that these two plants are a good representation of the medicinal plant community.
